We are saddened to share news of the passing of Mrs. Claudia Smith. Claudia was a devoted member of our church family. She will be dearly missed. Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home of Broadway. There will be a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Spring Hill United Methodist Church in Lillington, NC with Rev. Dr. Jerome Smith, Rev. William Spencer and Brad Marona, ThD officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. Claudia Nelle Roberts Smith, age 84 of Sanford, passed away on Friday (8/9/2019) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital. She was born in Harnett County, daughter of the late Euette Martin Roberts and Sarah Margaret Stewart Roberts. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray J. Smith. Her parents, brother Murk Roberts, Sister Dorothy Cummings, and great granddaughter Chloe Leslie. Claudia was a graduate of Boone Trail High School and attended Campbell College. She was a member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church and owned and operated restaurants in the Moore County area over the past thirty years. Surviving are her daughters Sharon Fields and husband Jimmy of Carthage, NC, Raynelle Allred of Carthage, NC, Darline Ratliff of Sanford, NC and Janet Smith of Sanford, NC. Sister Sandra Patterson and husband Ed of Broadway, NC. Brothers E.M. Roberts Jr. of Broadway, NC and Clyde Earl Roberts of Oriental, NC. Twelve grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday evening at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway. VBS 2019 is right around the corner. This year we will travel "To Mars and Beyond" and help kids discover the wonders of God's universe. They'll become Voyagers on a journey through space, exploring where God's power can take them. Along the way, they'll learn how God walked with heroes of the Bible, and that God is always with them, too. Add to the adventure with out-of-this-world fun, learning, and timeless Bible stories that inspire kids to give glory to God, who is able to do far beyond all that we could ask or imagine! This year's VBS will be held Sunday, July 14th - Friday, July 19th, beginning each day at 5:30 with a meal being served. Our Spring Hill IMPACT Youth are off to Lake Junaluska for their Summer Youth Retreat. This year's theme is Kairos: Your Moment of Opportunity. Kairos is an opportune moment in your life where you recognize the ways God is calling you to live, be or become. It’s a moment where you fully give yourself to be shaped by God so that through you God can shape the world. Over the weekend, there will be morning and evening sessions with high every worship, guest preachers and speakers, and workshops. Please join us in praying for a safe, enjoyable, and blessed trip!

On Thursday our IMPACT Youth will be leaving for their summer retreat to Lake Junaluska. They are excited about their trip and their chance to serve and grow spiritually. Please be in prayer for a safe and wonderful trip.

Update on Lewis Cummings from the Cummings Family. "Uncle Lewis remains at Wake Med Cary. We are still waiting on the second blood culture but all signs are pointing towards his infection improving. We are praying for good results from the new culture and that the antibiotics continue to work. Uncle Lewis is also struggling with getting his sleep. Please pray that he can rest. He hasn’t slept in several days. Lack of sleep is rough on his mind and his family." Please continue to keep Lewis, Sue, Allison and David, and the Cummings family in your prayers. We continue to pray for God's grace, healing, and complete restoration. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayers.

We ask that you join us in prayer for Sylvia and Ralph Bellflower who lost their granddaughter last week. Amber Barile, 27, passed away on Thursday, June 6th, 2019 at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn, NC. She also leaves behind her young son Branson. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, June 13th, 2019 at 7:00 pm in the chapel of Adcock Funeral Home in Spring Lake, NC. The family will receive friends and family from 5:00 to 6:30 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Ralph and Sylvia are beloved members of our church and community. Please pray they will be surrounded and supported by God's grace, peace, and mercy in the days ahead. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

Our Impact Youth and their leaders have worked really hard preparing for Youth Sunday, which will be celebrated this Sunday, May 19th. Worship service begins at 11:00am, we hope you'll join us. There will be a covered dish lunch immediately following the service in honor of our youth and their leaders. Everyone is invited to attend.

Please continue to keep Lewis Cummings in your prayers. As many of you know, Lewis was admitted this past weekend to Wake Med in Cary with signs of a mild stroke. They are running several test to follow up on other symptoms and concerns. He's hoping to be moved to rehab at Wake Med very soon. Please pray for complete healing and restoration of Lewis, pray for Sue, Allison and David, and the entire family. "I cried out to the Lord when I was in trouble and he answered me." - Psalm 120:1

Ned Cummings has been a member at Spring Hill his entire life. He's always wanted to deliver a special message from the pulpit. This past Sunday he blessed us all with a great sermon. Today Nathan Porter and our VBS class presented the song ‘The Cross of Christ’ during our worship service. Nathan wrote that song a few years ago, and it was very special for him to present it with this amazing and super talented group.
